Teacher Bios

The Toucans class includes three teachers to serve you: Karla Castro, Alishia Wendtlandt, and Sara Reyes. Karla works Monday through Thursday, Alishia works Monday and Wednesday, and Sara works Tuesday and Thursday.

Karla Castro (Monday - Thursday)

Hi, my name is Karla Castro (Ms Karla). I've been with MDOCP for five years now and love every moment I get to spend with the children learning about God’s word. I've been married to my husband Dax for 18 years (together 23 years) and have 3 God-fearing children, Kitty 17, Dax Jr 16, and Nina 12, and my 2 year old four-legged baby Sam. My husband and I both were born in Central America, met in New Orleans, Louisiana (GEAUX SAINTS), and got married in Austin, Texas. We are very busy parents, juggling everyday life from business owners to all the kid’s activities. We love spending time as a family and attend church at Fellowship Church Plum Creek. Our family goal in life is to serve God. "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord" Joshua 24:15

Alishia Wendtlandt (Monday/Wednesday)

My name is Alishia but the kids call me Miss Lish. I am beyond blessed to be a part of the MDOCP team. The people I work with are all amazing. I love being able to bond with these kids and watch them learn and grow over the school year. My son Ollie is 4 and my daughter Nora is 2. My husband works at ION solar. We love to go swimming, go on nature walks, eat ice cream, pizza and movie night, and travel anywhere near or far.

Sara Reyes (Tuesday/Thursday)

Hello! My name is Sara Reyes. I am a three + year veteran early childhood educator at MDOCP. I will be the Tuesday/Thursday Toucan teacher for the 2019/2020 school year. I look forward to getting to know your sweet babies in the Toucan room. You can expect our year to be filled with transitions, learning, creativity, expression, love, and fun!

A little about me:

I have been married to my husband Ryan for 8 years now. I am originally from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Interesting fact, I went to high school with The Pentatonix! I moved to the Austin area about 7 years ago. I have 3 children: Aria 7, Alli 5, and Elijah 4, and a cat named Meowi 2. They (the kids) take up MOST of my free time, BUT in my spare time I love baking, painting, photography, COFFEE, and decorating. Oh, and did I mention coffee?

I am very blessed to have met so many incredible teachers and directors who have welcomed me with open arms into their program and become my best friends. What I love most about Mother’s Day Out and Mrs. Jenny is that as teachers we are supported and encouraged to use our creativity to structure our lesson plans and crafts/activities how we see fit for our classroom.

I believe in an open line of communication. Please feel free to text or email me with any questions or comments. I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible outside of school hours.

God Bless!

(Psalm 23:6, NLT) Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life.
